5 Common No Start Problems

5 Common No Start ProblemsIt seems so simple to get your car started, a turn of the key and vroom, vroom. But the actual stream of events that occurs in order to start your vehicle is much more complicated. It takes a perfect mix of electricity, gasoline and air to get the car fired up, and if any of these are lacking it means your car's engine won't fire up and you're not going anywhere. These are five of the most common problems that cause no start issues.

Bad Alternator

The alternator is what charges the battery as the engine is running, so if it goes bad it means the battery will be quickly drained of its power and won't be able to provide the initial spark necessary to get the car up and running.

Faulty Starter

If the starter motor or starter solenoid fail due to regular wear and tear or poor electrical flow it means the starter won't be able to engage with the flywheel and spin it, getting the motor rotating. Starter problems are most often characterized by the sound of a loud click or multiple clicks as you try and start the car.

Dirty Fuel Injectors

A common fuel problem is clogged or dirty fuel injectors. This means insufficient amounts of gasoline will be able to get into the combustion chamber to fire the engine up. This can be prevented by using an occasional additive, however if the injectors become clogged up they'll likely need to be service by a professional auto repair technician.

Bad Ignition Switch

The ignition switch is what creates the initial electrical pathway necessary to get the car running. If the switch goes bad, which can be characterized by a hard to turn key, flickering dash lights or elongated starting times, no power will be available to get the starting process underway.

Faulty Fuel Pump

Another common problem related to insufficient gasoline is a faulty fuel pump. If the pump fails gasoline won't be able to get from the gas tank to the engine in order to start the vehicle. A pump that is going bad will cause a sudden jerking motion in the vehicle or seemingly inexplicable acceleration for short periods of time.
